Structural Integration Basic Training Taught by Dan Bienenfeld
June 9 @ 9:00 am - July 24 @ 6:00 pm

The Basic training will include both Auditing and Practitioning students. However, Structural Integrators who would like the opportunity to experience Dr Rolf’s original method of Basic Training as an Auditor or Practitioner, contact us for the reduced tuition.
Auditing is where students begin to learn the foundational skills of sight, touch and a thorough understanding of the Basic 10 Series which are all key to the successful practicing of the Rolf Method of Structural Integration. A practitioner’s ability to see allows them to assess balance and imbalance, and function and dysfunction in a client.
Effectively manipulating fascia is very different than working with muscles. During the auditing phase of training, students will begin to work with fascia learning palpation skills, relationship anatomy and basic manipulation skills while working with other students. The goal of the auditing phase is to prepare students for the practitioning phase of training. Having a theoretical understanding of the Recipe of the Basic 10 Series will set them up to be successful when they begin to work with models during the practitioner phase of training. Each morning class will begin with a discussion on the recipe followed by a teacher demonstration of the applicable session. By participating in these discussions and observing the sessions, auditors will begin to understand the genius of Dr. Rolf’s work. Every student will have experienced the Basic 10 Series before attending AGSI. This experience is most likely an important reason why they are choosing to become a practitioner. There is a logic and flow to the series that can’t be read about or discussed but needs to be absorbed. The Audititing Phase of training is thoughtfully designed to help students have a deep understanding of the recipe, how it unwinds the body and how its sum is far greater than its parts.
All students will work closely with teachers. Our classroom is a close knit environment allowing students to receive informal regular feedback as the class progresses. There will also be a “mid-term” formal feedback session to make sure students are meeting expectations and having theirs met. When class is completed there will be another assessment determining if the student is prepared to move on to the practitioner phase of training. At this time goals for the rest of the training will be discussed. Goals will be both about practical skills and personal growth.
The Basic Practitioning Phase of the training concentrates on the instruction and practice of hands-on manipulation by students who have successfully completed the auditing phase. Practitioning is an exciting time where the students work with each other and models performing the Basic 10 session series. After gaining a thorough understanding of the ‘Recipe’ during the Basic Auditing Phase of training, students will have the opportunity to apply their new skills. This phase of the training is about the working experience.
In a professional environment and directly supervised by instructors, the students will work with models and each other to develop client relationships, assess structure and posture, develop treatment strategies and evaluate post session results. This is the part of the training where all of the pieces come together. Performing the series on clients with expert supervision is when the genius of the ‘Recipe’ begins to make sense. Students will now begin to be able to anticipate changes in their models’ structure and gain a deeper understanding of the progression of the series. Sessions and days will be debriefed and there will be a mid-term assessment to make the most of the learning opportunities. After successfully completing the Basic 10 series with a total of three people (a student partner and two models) along with basic course work, students will receive an evaluation and their diploma.
